Consumer Law has been gaining ground in the Angolan legal system, with the emergence of several demands in this area, taking into account the population’s awareness of their rights. Although the Angolan State approved Law 15/03 of 22 July in 2003, matters relating to the protection of Consumer Rights have in fact been the subject of profound reflection in the last decade. Therefore, we believe that Angolan legislation on consumer protection is on the safe path towards modern legislation in the sector, despite its approval having occurred more than two decades ago.
Our office has a group of professionals dedicated to acting both in the prevention and resolution of disputes relating to consumer rights. In the area of preventing consumer rights violations, we have extensive experience in structuring and reviewing contracts involving consumer relations, particularly in the field of education, where there are high levels of litigation, closely related to the collection of tuition fees (some of which are undue), the imposition of fines for late payment, the suspension of students from classes due to non-payment, among other situations arising from consumer relations.
In the area of litigation, we are qualified to assist our clients in filing lawsuits, preparing defenses and appeals, and monitoring proceedings before the institutions with jurisdiction for this purpose, in this case, INADEC, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, district courts, among others.
